April showers should bring May flowers, so don’t let those showers get you down. Great weather and beautiful sunsets ahead! We would like to welcome our new resident Nancy Cappuccio to the West Indies!

It should be a busy month here in the West Indies as residents will be enjoying refreshing popsicles, short stories and games while relaxing outside on our beautiful patio!

On April 1st don’t believe everything you hear! As you know, April Fools Day each year is celebrated by playing practical jokes on each other! Happy Birthday April 12th to the beautiful Vivian Senac! She looks amazing for 98 years old! May your birthday wishes come true Vivian!

Happy Easter April 16th. This has always been an exciting time of the year! Residents will be decorating eggs, and having an egg hunt (not to mention eating chocolate bunnies!) Of course these things aren’t the real reason we celebrate Easter. As Christians, we celebrate Easter for entirely different reasons. We are actually celebrating Jesus’ death for our sins and His resurrection.

Happy Earth Day April 22nd. Residents will enjoy making Pinecone and Peanut Butter Feeders! Time to get busy in your back yard, as Arbor Day is April 28th and is a holiday in which individuals are encouraged to plant and care for trees! Residents will be busy watering plants and trees on our patio.

So, what is the definition of a “caregiver”? Well the dictionary says it is “a person who gives help and protection to someone”. This is true but I would like to reflect further on the staff here at theWest Indies. They are a person, male or female, young or old, short or tall, but all who have love and compassion for our residents. They are a breath of fresh air when you have had a rough or restless night or day. They are people you can go to for a big hug when you are not feeling well, you’re a little low or need someone to chat with when you have a story to tell! These qualities can’t be taught but must be felt with the heart! I feel very lucky to be working with a staff that deals with a new challenge every day!

Quote for the month: Remember we can’t change the direction of the wind, but we can adjust our sails to reach our destinations!
