"May! Queen of blossoms,
And fulfilling flowers,
With what pretty music
Shall we charm the hours?
Wilt thou have pipe and reed,
Blown in the open mead?
Or to the lute give heed
In the green bowers?"
- Lord Edward Thurlow, May

May is here..and with it the promise of bright sunny days, warmer weather, and opportunities to enjoy the outdoors with friends and family.

Our World is ever -changing as we experience life “post-vaccine.” We are so grateful to now be able to have visitors, go out with family and friends for visits, and enjoy life in the new normal. Of course, we will still wear our masks, social distance, and wash our hands well…but this is a far cry from where we were last May. We're grateful for our health, the dedication of our staff, and the kindness, patience and support of our residents, families and friends as we have journeyed to this point together. Let’s celebrate!

On Saturday May 1st,we’ll enjoy watching the Kentucky Derby... along with a special dinner featuring great Louisville classic recipes. On May 5, th we’ll have a poolside Fiesta for our residents to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. May is also the month for remembering and honoring our Mother’s. We have so many lovely, kind and caring ladies here..it’s like having many Mother’s every time we come to work! This month is a celebration of all our Mom’s, who do so much to make our lives richer and fuller.

We also honor our military, with Armed Forces Day, and remember those we have lost on Memorial Day this month. We hope to come up with even more fun things to do as we all work together to stay healthy and well.

Happy May!

An altered look about the hills;
A Tyrian light the village fills;
A wider sunrise in the dawn;
A deeper twilight on the lawn;
A print of a vermilion foot;
A purple finger on the slope;
A flippant fly upon the pane;
A spider at his trade again;
An added strut in chanticleer;
A flower expected everywhere ..."
-Emily Dickinson, Nature: April

April has always been my favorite month. Having grown up back East, this is the time when our grey slushy snows started to disappear, and the snowdrops and crocus began to peek up to smile at the sky. Lily of the Valley appeared and bowed their heads, and our lawn was filled with wood violets. Our forsythia shrubs began to blossom, and created a little hut of sunshine for hours of springtime book reading (as well as a great hiding place from chores). And the lilacs that up until now had covered our barn in vines burst forth creating a purple curtain filled with that heavenly scent that only lilacs can create. Hy acinths and daffodils dotted our walkway, and the fruits of my Aunt Hilda’s bulb planting made our garden a patchwork of colorful tulips.

April at San Clemente Villas by the Sea will bring us an opportunity to enjoy our own beautiful grounds and poolside area, as we celebrate our expanding liberties in the post vaccine world. We will keep you and your families informed about new developments as they come up, and we’re hopeful that with decreasing cases and increasing vaccinations, we can add more and more to our activity calendar. We will also be renovating the front patio furniture soon, with bright new cushions for comfortable hours outside on warmer sunny days.

As always, it is our pleasure to welcome a new season of opportunities and adventures with you. We look forward to making many happy April memories together as we revel in Spring!

"The air is like a butterfly
With frail blue wings.
The happy earth looks at the sky
And sings."

- Joyce Kilmer, Spring

Spring is in the air! All around us there are signs of renewal, as we enjoy the beautiful green hillsides from the recent rains, fresh new flowers in our Courtyard and Cabana area, and the warmer breezes and longer afternoons as we move toward Spring on Saturday, March 20th!

Spring is also a great time to refresh our outlook. Make a fitness resolution by joining one of our exercise classes. Tap into your creative side by coming to a painting or craft class. Join us with suggestions for a new club, or try one of our new exciting outings. Make one new friend by talking to a neighbor you’ve never met. Or, put some Spring in your step by joining our new walking club on their “Mission to Fitness”.

March is also a great time to experiment with new foods! Chef has added some exciting selections to the menu with his great team of cooks. Try some of these fresh and exciting new options and let us know what you think!

As we “March into Spring” together, please remember that all of our friendly staff are committed to your happiness and wellbeing. Please reach out to any of us if there is something you need or to share your praises or concerns. We’re all here for you!

Bending from Heaven, in azure mirth,
It kissed the forehead of the Earth,
And smiled upon the silent sea,
And bade the frozen streams be free,
And waked to music all their fountains,
And breathed upon the frozen mountains...
~Percy Bysshe Shelley

After the heyday of the holidays has ended, we transition to February and eagerly await the coming of Spring. For those of us lucky enough to live in sunny California, Spring is when we will begin to see the weather improve as bulbs planted in theWinter begin to unfurl in beautiful colors across the garden. This month also gives us even more opportunities to try new events, and activities. Our Activity team is always looking for new and exciting things to add for your enjoyment, and we welcome your suggestions and ideas! This month, we will celebrate Groundhog Day. Valentine’s Day,Mardi Gras, President’s Day, and Chinese New Year!

As we navigate the world following our vaccinations, we will be adding in new adventures as we are safely able to, always with your health, safety and wellbeing in mind. All of our precautions will remain in place for now, and gradually we will expand our activities and outreach to achieve a “new normal”.

In January, I discovered the resolution: “Begin asYou Mean To Continue”. For February, why not go outside of your comfort zone and try one new thing on the calendar that you’ve never tried before. Join us for a craft class. Come and experience a new entertainer. Participate in a new event, join our Walking Club, or share an idea for a new activity or outing.. Give it a try, and be sure to let us know how you liked it!

Happy February!
